Luxury Spas and Hotels usually have one thing in common – Zen inspired interiors. These interiors are great for creating a soothing and calming atmosphere ideal for relaxing after a long week of work. Would you love to have this at home? It’s not as expensive as you might think. Simply adding naturally formed pebble tiles can go a long way in your interior project. Although these stone pebbles come in the form of tiles they can be used for not only the floor but also wall or even as accent pieces. Until recently however these tiles were not so mainstream which is why you would only seem them in high-end resorts or spas making them a highly desired and sought after interior design style.

When browsing online you will find these pebbles under many different names and countless styles. You will commonly find them as river rock or beach stones because they are naturally formed in those areas but in most cases if you ask for <a target=”_blank” href=”http://www.bmosaics.com/zen.html” title=”stone pebbles”>stone pebbles</a> people should know what you’re asking for. These stone tiles mostly come in two styles, laid out flat or stacked on-top one another which adds another level of dimension to your interior, perfect for any modern in-home spa. While you can use the flat styles in just about any format be it floor, wall, walkway, etc. Stacked pebbles are usually only used on walls as it would be uncomfortable to walk over them and perhaps even dangerous as you could trip over them. Regardless of the style they are all prepared in a similar fashion; they gather the naturally formed stone and pebbles. A machine then puts the stones through a cleaning process and they are then hand selected by a designer to ensure a good contrast of natural color and stone placement. Afterward they are then placed on a nylon mesh to form a standard 12×12 tile.

A major reason for the growing popularity in pebble tiles is their natural scratch and water resistant properties. This makes them an no-brainer for any outdoor project such as pool surroundings or walkways. Some designers are known to take the pebble tile simply as they come and lay them down as an outdoor area rug giving a great natural look.

When starting your design project if you are going to use pebble tiles keep in mind that although naturally formed, the selection of stones is immensely large. They come in several size ranges; just about every natural color and they even provide the stone with different finishes such as smooth or rough tumbled. Because these tiles come from naturally formed materials they are of course an eco friendly product which is great for the green conscious consumer.

You are considering giving your house a well deserved facelift. This is the time when you got to part with a lot of hard earned cash. Right? Wrong! You may save your dollar and spend your dime if you will spend some time.

Tiles are the way a floor gets its ball gown. The Cinderella must spend the time at the ball and who is the fairy godmother who helps things along? You!

Remember the time when your grandpa laid the path to your house with cobble stones? It turned the entire fronting into something from out of a picture book. Well you could do the same with your flouring.

The answer is the river rock tile. This is the simplest thing which could turn the house into another picture book effort. Give it a try.

First you should plan the whole thing down to the smallest detail.

Get your pebbles

Make the tiles

Lay the tiles

The fly in the ointment is of course getting your hands on the pebbles. There are many streams in our locality and some of us are located literally next to the river. So, you are almost home if you would do one thing. Allocate some time to getting those pebbles.

The thing you have to remember is that the pebbles should not be too big. They must be a size too big to bite and a size too small to be a handful. Try and get those which are flat because they are easier to work with.

The colors do not matter unless you are planning to match them up with the interiors of the house. Mainly choose all those which have the same color pattern. The colors may vary from off white to bright reddish brown, or they may be shades of dull blue to black.

Making your own river rock tile is easy. You start off with some chicken wire or any workable wire mesh. This is to seat the tiles when the mortar is setting. Place your mortar mould on the floor and mark out the edges. (A mortar mould is nothing but the steel plates which is approximately 20cm x 20 cm. It is shaped like an open box and the height of the box is about 6cm to 10cm).

Now what you want to do is to put all the pebbles on the floor which has been marked out by the outlines of the mortar box. Within each box, assign a number of pebbles which are matching each other. Now your tiles are ready to be laid. Put some sand mixed with sawdust on the floor for a fixed height of 2cm. Put your tiles in the sand and press them down. Use some wriggling movement to make sure the river rock or pebbles are exposed on the other side. Then scatter some packing case foam or cotton waste over the entire assembly. Clean the rocks. Put in the mortar and even out these spaces between the rocks with a trowel. Remember to wipe out the rocks before the cement hardens and discolors the rock or pebble.

River rock tile makes a very compatible work material because it is cheap. It is available locally in most places. It only takessome time to make the tiles yourself. The colors are splendid and you have redecorated your floor with the latest kinds of designs which is sure to become the envy of the neighborhood.Pebble tiles are having an uneven appearance and will have protrusions here and there. But it will only add to the beauty and liven up the room in which it is laid.

Every house has a door. One may say, ‘Every clock has its face’ and of late every floor has tile flooring. It seems like only yesterday, when I was at my grandpa’s, I was struck by the way the floors were finished with only cement. Of course it was all done in true style. The design of the house did not change. The materials of construction did not change. Even some of the workers are still the same; they only go from house to house doing their little bit to contribute to society.

In this respect one should pay one’s tribute to the tile. This is an innovation which has been set since the days when Ford used the Principle of assembly line in his manufacturing techniques to make cars. Things change in the course of time and the pebble tile has kept pace with the developments and created niche for itself in the building and interior decoration department.

The floors have since got the look of a seductress form that of a humble servant. The look of house have changed and with it changed everyone. This is but natural, for when on e is in the company of a master one naturally adopts those things which rub off over the course of time. These aside, there are qualities of the tile which are worth noting.

The tile has brought with it increased durability and toughness. It also turned some corners which otherwise would have seemed impossible. The only way to get a grip on the wet bathroom floor is through the use of rubber tiles. There are glass tiles especially in those fancy aquariums where one has a lot of fishy swimming beneath. Sounds quite murky! Or does it? Increasing the visibility and having an increased range of visibility is somewhat essential for a public exhibition area.

Plastics entered the scene when people discovered that there are no places that the plastic would not go to. It occupies every place form household utensils to automobile parts and air plane body. It is an essential ingredient in almost every domestic appliance and now it is creeping on to the floor! I can see it in a variety of fashionable designs with beauty staring defiantly in your face. One must really stop to admire the sheer veracity of the pebble tile. It visited to demonstrate its economic viability and now is showing off its considerable skills in lighting up the in interiors with the majesty of an experienced dilettante.

This tile makes its statement with the force of a gale sweeping across the oceans. It has shades of red and deviations of blue. It dominates with it’s off white mosaic tiles with a lot of colored chips strewn carelessly in the manner of a careless teenager who is in a hurry for his or her game. The base tile into which the pebbles are embedded may be soft like limestone or hard like granite. It may be a plain cement mosaic or it may be made of composite plastic. It would be colored to match the interiors of the house. The pebbles themselves are the talking point. This would be pure nature at its best with colors of the spectrum shining from the pebbles. These pebbles made of minerals likedolomite (many colors but mainly grey), quartz (colorless), feldspar (red) or copper (blue) will create a picture and delight any who dare venture within its domain.

To draw the curtain on today’s viewing of the tile and its presentation one would be remiss if one did not mention the part this tile has played in being the milestone of man’s progress. It is an invention which has turned the interiors and the floors to get a new sparkle, a new utility value and preserve art in its natural form.

Beauty is nothing but an occasion of enjoyment and celebration. Natural pebble has those properties in them which are given by nature. They are mostly dark in color though lighter shades and even some brilliantly colored types are available.

Tile made with these are in demand for the things they give, like a natural touch to the space in which they are laid. They help reduce the cost of the cement required. Most of the space is taken up by this natural pebble.

The natural pebble is composed of various minerals comprising silica and minerals like manganese, copper, iron and nickel. It is found all round us. They are actually small pieces of rock which are washed up on the streams and river beds. It is the presence of minerals in the natural pebble which is responsible for its luster and color. May of the minerals is often local to the region. This means a particular area will only have certain kinds of minerals. All the rocks will have the same color and disposition as the rest of the herd.

The natural pebble is a testament to the actual transition of the time itself. Each rock piece will travel several thousand kilometers before it reaches its final destination. This will make the pebble to rub off all the corners and you are left with a smooth round and sometimes flat pebble. What originally was a hard and angular rock, has weathered down to a smooth and slightly smaller pebble. Tiles are made with the stones or chips which are brightly colored. Occasionally the stone or pebble filling may be dull to match with the rest of the floor. These are made by enmeshing the stones on to the wire mesh and keeping the tiles on the same color scheme which is giving a good tonal effect.

It was only fifty or so years back when the floors had nothing but cement on them. The designs on the floor were all hand painted. The floor has travelled a long way since then. That is besides the numerous adaptations which were made to give the floor its shape which it has now. Though the modern day floor never existed in the imaginations of our ancestors, it has progressed beyond the borders of imagination itself and created a special place for itself in the history of construction.

Natural pebble seems innocuous enough, its origins innocence personified. Where then is the twist in the tale? How did the floor transform? It is an enigma which has kept wise men at bay and to ponder on things more mundane. Fairy tale creations or sobriety, insipid or inspired, the origin itself has lost significance. The object or the result of the creation far exceeds the limits of the excesses dreamed of by the creators themselves. Pebbles on the street like vagrant dogs seeking solace are lost in their occasional portrayals of the lost souls and the tiles in the newfound positions of honor often tend to give these ancestral piers a miss by. Do we not love dogs then? We do, we love our tiles and we debate on the thrill of life which seems to grow every time we see these creations.

If the tile had not happened then perhaps some kinds of foods would have evolved differently. Maybe some battles would not have been fought at all and it is possible that some inventions would have passed the time barrier itself. But what is the point in this kind of guess game? Let us sleep with the knowledge that the world is now all the better for the tiles.

Romans love Mosaics wall & floor designs that are very old and are abundantly used in Byzantine area for depicting mythical scenes for paying tribute to their god and emperor. Very luxurious materials (gold/ silver/ marble) were used for bring out colorful picture. Mosaics are quite popular even these days when we have entered 21st century but gold/ silver has been replaced by less expensive stone tiles in addition to colored glass which also makes it modern-day choice.

Mosaics are easy and simple way to create beautiful bathroom designs in multiple colors. You can begin with small square shaped glossy tiles all around your bathroom mirror where mirror in oval shape looks excellent. A wonderful suggested combination of different colors could be dark red, lime green, orange and lavender/ dark blue along with tiles in white color.

>Mosaics have been considered as an artwork form, which has been around us for about thousands of years. What we acknowledge as a glass mosaic nowadays is the bits of glass or ceramics adjusted into patterns in concrete or grout. This elegant artistic work had its beginnings in ancient Greece. Prior to that, people created things which were similar to contemporary mosaics, but were contrasting in a few vital ways.

Nearly all experts agree that the origins of mosaics started in the East. One instance of this is in Chaldaean society around 2000 BC. Rather than glass, they utilized small cones of painted clay, which encrusted into the surface of columns for ornamentations. The Egyptians first discovered fused glass and they started beautifying everything with it, including their ships. From Egypt, the utilization of fused glass circulated tardily across the entire world. Early in Greece, mosaics were made out of pebbles that had been fagged out in water. The pebbles (or ciottoli) encrusted in the pictures cautiously so that shading and designs were made to create the pictures more naturalistic. They as well utilized flimsy strips of lead to highlight and define lines in the pictures. Frequently these mosaics were utilized for floor beatifications, so their whole floor could be one large mosaic.

Through the 4th century BC, the artwork of glass mosaics altered greatly. The Romans flourished on and made alterations to the artwork that had been circulated to them by the Greeks. The Romans commenced to utilize smaller pieces of both stone and glass. As they were using smaller pieces, the pictures could be more elaborated and composite. Mosaics may be discovered all over from floors to ceilings to even paseos where mosaics were made from stones and pieces of marble.

In due course, the Romans circulated their mosaic making skills to the Byzantines who brought it to even greater heights. The amount of mosaics and the skill and elaborateness involved in them are extraordinary during this period in Byzantium. With the decline of Byzantium in the 15th century, however, mosaic making fell out of favor and was not practiced much if at all until the 19th century. Since then mosaics have continued from one form or another.

Nowadays, mosaics are animated and good. It is an easy artwork to learn, but it can take a lifespan of infinite possibilities to master. The variants and possibilities for so many different pieces is infinite. You are able to buy items for your mosaics, including pre-cut tiles or glass. You are able to utilize broken dishes from around your house, or even random items you find such as shells or rocks. Inspiration is all around you, from diachronic instances to more advanced mosaic artwork. Several instances of ancient mosaics still exist; few of them are outstandingly intact and well maintained. You could effort to copy a drawing or painting that you like into a mosaic, or you may take a diachronic example and attempt to copy it. The possibilities are infinite and the scope of your project could be huge or small, depending on what you plan to use it for.
